About iwell

At iwell, we are all about reinforcing energy security. We help European businesses become more energy independent. With growing regulations, extreme price volatility and rising grid issues, they need to be resilient. It is time to take charge and think ahead.

We deliver energy management solutions that ensure businesses are always in control of their energy. Our in-house developed Energy Management System (EMS) and modular battery storage drive profit through sustainability, making businesses future-proof and the electricity grid more reliable.

We are a fast-growing international team of bold, talented individuals. From engineers and software developers to creative thinkers and customer-focused business developers. No matter what your strong suit is, we always are looking for people who are determined to make a positive impact.

The Role

As Business Developer UK, you are the analytical and commercial engine behind our UK team. You pick up the cases that don’t fit a standard template: complex business cases, new partners to get up and running, and a UK energy market that keeps changing. You turn that complexity into clear numbers, clear answers and solutions that work for our customers and partners.

You will spend most of your time supporting the UK team, and around 20% working with our HQ team in Utrecht (Netherlands) on strategic initiatives, for example, incubating and building new propositions. You report to our Country Director UK, with a dotted line to the Head of Business Development at HQ.

What will be your main activities

  • Modelling complex business cases: You model energy and project scenarios for complex sites and segments such as transport & logistics and small utility-scale BESS, combining assets like battery storage, PV, and EV charging and optimisation based on grid fees or electricity commodity costs, and translate the results into a convincing business case for customers, partners and our sales team.

  • Onboarding and enabling new partners: You find and onboard new partners across the UK and train them in using iwell’s partner tools, so they can confidently scale together with iwell.

  • Visiting customers and partners: You join customer and partner visits alongside our UK sales team as a subject matter expert for the technical-commercial and financial questions, and help move deals forward.

  • Provide regulation & market insights: You keep abreast of UK regulation and market developments, such as the Capacity Market, G100 limitation and the roles of Virtual Lead Parties (VLP) and Virtual Trading Parties (VTP). You identify hardware and software requirements, analysing against competitor offerings. You capture these insights, share them across iwell and translate them into opportunities for our customers and product development recommendations for our HQ team.

  • Shape strategic initiativesStrategic business development with HQ (~20%): Together with the other business developers across the countries and in our our HQ team in Utrecht, you will own one or more strategic initiatives help answer big-picture questions,, e.g., incubating and building new propositions for new types of partners. You contribute with market research, pricing and market modelling, and you bring in the UK perspective.

What we are looking for

  • You have 3-5 years of experience in a role with a strong analytical component, for example in consulting, in innovation roles, with an energy project developer or an utility.

  • You have experienceor an affinity with technological or commercial modelling or quantitative analysis, and you are proficient in Excel.

  • You have a good understanding of the energy markets,  battery storage and/or energy management systems, or a strong drive to get there quickly.

  • You are proactive and want to be ahead of the game: a go-getter who doesn’t only wait for specific input but finds new information and opportunities and actively explores them.

  • You look forward to working in a scale-up environment with constantly evolving  challenges and love to come up with creative, practical solutions where there is no standard answer yet.

  • You enjoy working in an international environment and have experience doing so. Experience with the energy markets of other iwell countries (Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium) is a plus.

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred Master’s Degree) in a relevant field, e.g. Engineering, Econometrics, Energy Economics, Physics, or Business with a strong quantitative focus.

  • You live in the UK and are willing to travel within the country and attend industry shows / networking events, when applicable. You may also go on occasional trips to our HQ in Utrecht, The Netherlands, to collaborate with colleagues and for company-wide sessions and events.
